Winch’s Pine Grove Farms, a progressive, family-owned robotic dairy located in Fennimore, WI, is seeking a Herdsman or Dairy Farm Equipment Technician to join our team. We combine strong family values with modern dairy technology to operate an efficient, animal-focused, and forward-thinking operation. Our farm utilizes robotic milking systems and data-driven herd management tools while maintaining a hands-on, team-oriented environment. Position Overview
We are seeking one full-time team member to join our operation in either a:
- Herdsman (Livestock-Focused Role)
OR
- Dairy Farm Equipment Technician (Mechanical-Focused Role)
This position will be tailored to your primary strengths and experience. You will focus mainly on either herd management OR equipment and maintenance, while also being cross-trained in the other area to provide support when needed.

Primary Responsibilities (Based on Your Role Focus)
Option 1: Herdsman (Livestock-Focused)
- Monitor herd health and identify/treat sick animals
- Assist with calving, fresh cow care, and calf management
- Detect heats and assist with breeding and reproductive programs
- Administer vaccinations, medications, and basic treatments
- Maintain herd records using DelPro, CowManager, and DairyComp
- Assist with herd checks and general cattle handling
- Support robotic milking system monitoring and basic maintenance
- Maintain clean barns, stalls, waterers, and animal environments
Option 2: Equipment Technician (Mechanical-Focused)
- Perform maintenance and repairs on tractors, skid steers, and farm equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
- Maintain and troubleshoot robotic milking systems
- Support barn systems including ventilation, manure handling, and feeding equipment
- Mix and deliver feed rations using TMR equipment
- Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and seasonal readiness
- Complete general repairs, welding, and fabrication projects
- Support crop production including planting, harvesting, and fieldwork
Cross-Training & Support Responsibilities (Both Roles)
- Assist with livestock tasks such as moving cattle, vaccinations, or herd checks as needed
- Support robotic milking system monitoring and alarm response
- Help maintain overall farm cleanliness and organization
- Communicate observations and issues to farm ownership/management
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
Qualifications
- Experience in dairy, livestock, or agriculture preferred
- For Herdsman Track: Animal health, reproduction, and calf care experience preferred
- For Technician Track: Strong mechanical aptitude (diesel, hydraulics, electrical) preferred
- Willingness to learn robotic milking systems and farm technology
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in varying weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license required
Work Schedule
- Full-time position (~50 hours/week on average)
- Typical day: 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM with seasonal flexibility
- Every other weekend required (on-call for animals or robotic systems)
- Longer hours during planting and harvest
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience
