Summary:
This position is responsible for the daily operations of a food grade/seed soybean production facility including but not limited to safety, maintenance, production, inventory, orders, quality control, and management of plant/outside/driving staff. This is a position ideal for someone who is experienced in logistics/product handling, able to multi-task, communicate effectively, possesses strong leadership qualities, and can practice independent problem solving when needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication/Scheduling -
• Be in communication with NeCo Seed, Inc. General Manager about production schedules and timelines.
• Keeping the plant on schedule with specific varieties to be cleaned. Need to be punctual and provide estimated start and ending dates for each cleaning run.
• Communicating with outside staff on where beans need to be dumped/pulled from and bushel quantities.
•Working with the cleaner on what screen size is needed and what the cleanout ratio should be.
• Working closely with the plant lead on tagging and bagging products. Provide bagging instructions (including but not limited to hopper information, bin information, variety to be tagged as, packaging information…)
• Working with plant lead to ensure data accuracy of all paperwork, including but not limited to bagging reports. These are reports that should be verified and on time.
Shipping -
• Work with food grade on upcoming shipments and timelines to ensure deadlines are met.
• Working with the warehouse to make sure the product is available for upcoming shipments.
• Making sure that sales staff is informed if the product is not ready for shipment to customers.
Managing Employees -
• Continuing to be involved in process improvement. Make sure there is follow through with ideas to implement change. Encourage operator suggestions.
•Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers while clearly communicating expectations and responsibilities to employees.
• Assist in training and performance evaluations to ensure continuous improvement is maintained. Coaching employees on the floor and giving feedback before formal reviews.
• Ensure plant productivity on a daily basis. Identify, report, and correct issues that are negatively affecting production efficiency and/or quality.
Other -
•Maintaining plant equipment including preventative maintenance and housekeeping.
• Working with Safety Manager to ensure a safe workplace is maintained, based on company policies and OSHA guidelines. Ensuring that no shortcuts are taken that may be unsafe practices.
.• Willing to work mandatory overtime when required during busy seasons and understanding the exposure to:
· Extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, snow, ice, etc.)
· Noisy conditions
· Conditions may include dust and chemicals
· May be required to work at varying heights
· Lifting 50 - 70 lbs.
