Lab Automation Technician
Role Summary
We are seeking a dedicated
Lab Automation Technician to provide comprehensive technical support, including installation, training, and troubleshooting of Computer Aided Semen Analysis (CASA) systems, as well as complimentary Minitube equipment and software found in semen production labs. This role will also involve working with internal teams at Minitube USA and assisting with Andrology Lab operations. Our customers are primarily in the fields of sperm technology, including modern farm facilities, veterinary clinics, universities, and clinical research organizations.
Roles & Responsibilities
Technical Support and Service:
- Provide on-site and remote support (including via phone and remote computer sessions) to customers, ensuring the seamless operation of CASA systems and other Minitube equipment and software.
- Troubleshoot , resolve, and document technical issues promptly, delivering exceptional customer service.
- Provide 24/7 customer support as part of a collaborative team effort.
Product Installation and Setup:
- Install, configure, and conduct quality checks (QC) for spermatology equipment prior to shipment.
- Perform diagnostics, repair, and in-office servicing of Minitube equipment.
Inventory and Supply Chain Coordination:
- Work with the Purchasing Department to maintain inventory levels of microscope and computer parts to minimize delivery lead times for technical products.
- Coordinate with the Shipping Department to ensure orders are delivered accurately and on time; communicating any specific shipping or technical requirements to meet customer needs.
Sales Support and Liaison:
- Collaborate with the Sales and Animal Reproductive Technology Departments to ensure optimal system configurations based on customer specifications and site construction requirements.
- Serve as a technical liaison between Account Managers and customers, aiding in sales and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Training and Development:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of internal training for both current and prospective customers on Minitube equipment and software.
- Adhere to and fully support ISO quality standards and objectives within the role.
Product Development Feedback:
- Continued learning about advancements in microscopy and computer technologies to offer the best possible technical solutions to customers.
- Provide feedback to assist in product research and development, suggesting improvements for future equipment.
What We’re Looking For
- A minimum of a 2-year degree and could have up to a master’s degree, in Animal Science, Reproduction Physiology, Biology, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in laboratory processes and equipment maintenance. Experience in spermatology and sperm technology is a plus.
- Familiarity with lab equipment, particularly microscopes and computer systems. Experience in troubleshooting, system configuration, and technical support is critical.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, conceptual skills, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
- Additional Skills: Quality control, general consulting, control engineering, and production planning skills are highly beneficial.
Performance Objectives
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer and microscope technologies.
- Contribute valuable feedback for product development, particularly on customer equipment needs and software improvements.
- Assist the software engineering team by providing input on software compatibility, functionality, and enhancements.
- Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring customers are fully trained and satisfied with Minitube equipment and software programs.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to listen, communicate verbally, and use a computer for extended periods.
- Frequent tasks include sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms, lifting, and operating office equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to lift up to 50-60 pounds unassisted occasionally.
- Valid driver's license with minimal restrictions required.
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed. Travel may involve using various modes of transportation, including car, airplane, or train.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based, with travel.
- Travel Requirements: Up to 50% travel required, both domestic and international. All necessary travel expenses will be reimbursed, and a company-supplied vehicle may be provided. Passport required for international travel at employees’ expense.
- Some tasks may require movement throughout the facility to interact with other departments and to complete job duties.
- When visiting customer facilities, employees may be subject to biosecurity policies, including wearing provided clothing or showering into the facility.
- Occasional work in clinics, laboratory, or farm environments is required.
