Central Texas Pig Rescue is a nonprofit sanctuary dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of pigs and other farmed animals. We believe animals are here with us, not for us. As a sanctuary (not an agricultural operation), our daily care centers compassion, safety, and individualized support for each resident.
This is a supportive, communicative, and passionate community of animal caretakers, and we’re looking for more eager, pig-positive people to join our team.
CTPR is hiring an additional paid Animal Care Team Member to support daily animal care, health observations, and select transports. This is a traditional part-time employee role with biweekly payroll; applicable taxes will be withheld.
Employment Type: Part-time employee (W-2)
Schedule: Part-time; we may hire multiple people to cover a total of ~20 hours per week on set, predictable days. Weekend and holiday coverage required.
Compensation: $15–$20/hour, based on experience and training needed (top of range upon demonstrated self-sufficiency).

Love animals (especially pigs!) and align with our mission.
Are a thoughtful, clear communicator (written and verbal).
Can handle Central Texas weather (summer heat, winter cold, mud, dust).
Can repeatedly lift and carry 50 lb (feed bags, hay bales).
Hold a valid driver’s license and can present proof of personal auto insurance.
Can comply with a vegan lifestyle while on sanctuary property (mandatory).
Have some animal-care experience (priority to pig or farmed-animal experience).
Daily feeding and watering, neighborhood checks, groundskeeping, and tending to cabins and neighborhoodsas directed.
Health observations and reporting (mobility, appetite, behavior, wounds, etc.).
Special-needs support, including preparing special meals and administering oral meds/supplements per protocol.
Hospital transports to Texas A&M Veterinary Hospital during normal business hours (typically scheduled in advance). Drives are performed in the sanctuary van; proof of personal auto insurance is required. Expect occasional long round-trip drives.
On-site support for deliveries, mobile vet or farrier visits, and vendor check-ins.
Projects and grounds work such as spreading mulch, digging mud spas, setting t-posts or fencing, and light repairs.
Team communication: active, timely use of Microsoft Teams for shift notes, animal updates, task hand-offs, and collaboration.
(If you don’t/won’t/can’t use your phone for work communication, this won’t be a fit.)
Solo shifts are common — you will often be the only person on site. Success requires self-drive, clear communication, and confident decision-making within sanctuary protocols.
Reliability is non-negotiable. This role backstops unpaid volunteers who carry full-time jobs and other responsibilities; if you don’t show up, animals and people are impacted.
Consistency is the goal. We value steady hours on site, predictable days, thorough shift notes in Teams, and clean hand-offs.
Age 18+.
Reliable transportation and punctuality.
Ability to work safely around large animals and follow biosecurity and sanctuary protocols.
Vegan lifestyle while on sanctuary property (mandatory).
Comfortable working outdoors year-round; able to stand and walk for long periods; safely lift 50 lb multiple times per shift.
Pig or farmed-animal care experience.
Equine (donkey-specific) experience.
Experience driving a livestock trailer (please note if applicable).
First aid or triage experience with prey animals (who don’t always want the help).
This is a traditional employee position. Pay is issued biweekly, with applicable federal and state taxes withheld. Employment eligibility verification will be required prior to starting.
